Internet Safety

The internet is a seemingly never ending resource – both for adults and children. We rely on the internet for work and leisure – just think about NOT having internet for a week and the impact it would now have for you from being able to contact friends and family via email, skype, to shopping, to researching about where to go on holiday or the best restaurant in town.

However with all those freedoms comes responsibility. It is now believed that about 43% of all young people  have experienced  cyber-bullying, and 70% have seen it. However cyber-bullying is not the only concern…the number of online connections people make, and their definition as being “friends” can leave children and adults vulnerable to a number of forms of abuse.

We are able to run workshops for young people so that they have a greater awareness of keeping themselves and others safe, and how to report any concerns. We use a range of activities, games and discussions as well as looking at real life examples so that they are aware of how to protect themselves and their real life friends. The parent workshops will make parents aware of signs and indicators as well as exploring what their young people are doing with the internet and how they can monitor their children’s use to ensure their safety.
