Mediated Learning

Each child has a different core skills set, and through supporting their learning these skills can be extended. This process is called mediated learning and was developed by Reuven Feuerstein. Feuerstein was a cognitive psychologist who believed that intelligence is modifiable if students are emotionally secure, have an appropriate learning opportunity and someone to create a quality intervention to develop their cognitive skills.

Having used an assessment called Cognitive Abilities Profile (CAP) to both identify students areas of strength, and the areas where they would benefit from development and suggest strategies to help them move forward with their learning. I can then work directly with the child on a weekly basis following the principles of mediated learning to support them to move them forward. These sessions are based on developing the core skills we all need to be an effective learner through life. These could include: memory activities, developing logical thinking, organisational skills, perception and language skills.
